A Stone of the Times…. Beauty, Energy, and Inexpensive
It might be time to get to know Vanadinite. You may have heard of it. You may have seen a specimen for sale from time to time. But perhaps you are not familiar with this beautiful red/orange natural crystal.
Now, these crystals are too soft to facet, so you don’t find Vanadinite jewelry. The issue is that to polish a stone it needs to be hard enough to polish. Trying to polish a Vanadinite crystal would be like trying to polish talc. You would just grind it to dust first.
But they are beautiful, energetic, and fortunately found in clusters on the native rock which makes them easy to own and easy to use.
So what is this Vanadinite and how could I use it with my other crystals? Good question.
Vanadinite was first discovered by Señor A.M. del Rio Professor, School of Mines of Mexico around 300 years ago. It is part of the apatite group of minerals. It is soft with a hardness of about 2.5 to 3, the same as Gypsum or Calcite. What is unusual is that IT naturally has a sub-adamantine luster. While we cannot cut and polish it, the natural crystals form with very high luster… they are very attractive and quite energetic. The metaphysical properties make it an excellent stone for a myriad of purposes.
First, as a basic talisman, Vanadinite is primarily used to aid you in efforts to rid yourself of bad habits and in efforts to overcome minor mental and physical ailments. This is done usually by meditation. The crystal clusters do not lend themselves to being carried around, but the clusters with their many small beautiful crystals are excellent focus stones for a meditation session. We find using a dark room and a candle near the cluster and slowly moving the cluster is a powerful aid to meditation. The light reflecting off the many facets of the many crystals is almost mesmerizing.
Vanadinite is also a healing crystal for the area of the aura between the First and Second Chakra. This is an area that is worth a bit of time to keep in balance as it really sets the stage for all energy flow. We find that a few minutes a day with a Vanadinite cluster placed just below the navel seems to bring a deep sense of balance and alignment to our energy. Highly recommended.
Now Vanadinite, formed in the Hexagonal habit and in the Class VII phosphates class of mineral is a Seeker Buffer Crystal. These are excellent balancing crystals. As humans, we all need a center, a place of repose, a place of balance. We have passion; we need rest. We have growth; we need renewal. We have a community; we need space. When we have too much of something, we start to need some of its opposites.
We are creatures of the middle. We want to be wise but want to learn again. We want strength but need help. We want understanding but need joy. We seek vision but desire wonder. We want knowledge but we want to be surprised sometimes.
Using Vanadinite for Centering and Balance
Using a Vanadinite is an excellent way to keep centered and have balance in your life. Our method is a simple one. Sit comfortably. Now, take a vanadinite cluster in both hands. Hold it with outstretched arms in front of you. Now bring your hands into your lap slowly. Take a breath. Now hold the breath and stretch your arms out again moving the vanadinite cluster out in front of you and out of your immediate aura. Now slowly let the breath out and bring the cluster into your lap. Now take a breath and hold it out. Repeat this about a dozen times very slowly. You will find a sense of your life starting to make sense and your priorities changing to allow your spirit its time.
Finally, with its fire energy, red Vanadinite is the color of richness and luxury in traditional Feng Shu. We use red and scarlet crystals in rooms in which children play, and freely in rooms where energy levels are focused on activity. Dining rooms and kitchens benefit from red crystals. They allow the free flow of energy that is important in these areas. The best areas are the North, Northeast and Southwest, and South. When you are not using the Vanadinite for meditation, balancing, or centering activities, put it in plain sight in rooms in which you need energy. Put it where it will be safe, but visible. You will enjoy the energy of the bright red/orange color energy more that way.
So, now you know a lot more about Vanadinite. You will find it an excellent addition to your crystal collection.
