What is a Zodiac Sign Really?

Today we explore  the origins and meaning of Zodiac signs in Western astrology. The discussion traces the concept back to ancient Babylonian astronomy, where constellations were named after animals and mythological figures. The podcast explains that while these constellations were initially used to predict seasonal events, they eventually became associated with individual personality traits. It then delves into the difference between Western astrology and Sidereal astrology, highlighting how the precession of the Earth’s axis has shifted the alignment of the Sun with the constellations over time. Western astrology, however, continues to use the Babylonian system, assigning a 30-day period to each Zodiac sign based on the constellation the Sun was believed to rise in 5,000 years ago.

The podcast has an accompanying blog post where you can actually learn what a Zodiac sign is exactly.  Astrology 101:  What is a Zodiac Sign?
