Earth Renewal Moon
"Life is a circle, from birth to death to rebirth. Humans, like the seasons, pass through many phases during their lives. The moon stones of the Medicine Wheel give us a way of understanding and celebrating these changes. The moon during which you were born determines your starting point on the wheel."[1]
Does your birthday lie between December 22nd and January 19th?
If you answered yes, then you were born under the Earth Renewal Moon, the first moon of the year. This moon is also known as the “ Snow Goose Moon.”
It begins at the beginning of the solar year – on the Winter Equinox. It is the first moon of Kabibonokka, the Spirit Keeper of the North, and it begins as the sun once again journeys back from the south. It also brings you the strength of the Turtle Clan.
The crystal of this moon is clear quartz that serves as a wonderful receiver and transmitter of the Universal Life Force.
This moon teaches us to be adaptable, and to always remember there is a time to begin again, and not to despair of that which has come and gone before.
If this is your birth moon, then the Earth Renewal Moon will always be special to you.
However, you are not to spend your life under this moon. As you grow, the Native Americans believe you move from “moon to moon” around the Medicine Wheel learning its lessons and drawing its strength as you go.
Many people born under the Earth Renewal Moon tend to be overprotective, especially over their loved ones. They absolutely love having company that share similar characteristics. They find it easier to make connections and friendships that last longer.
People born under this moon seem to create the strongest friendships or relationships with those born under the Frog Return Moon (April 20 to May 21), the Harvest Moon (Aug 23 to Sept 22) and the Ducks Fly Moon (Sept 23 to Oct 23).
For some people, expressing feelings or being involved in social environments is a difficult task. If you are having these difficulties, perhaps the energy of the Earth Renewal Moon could assist you.
Use a clear quartz crystal to bring its energy to your life. Clear quartz is ordinary yet extraordinary, colorful and clear. Quartz crystals are the most common and abundant in the world, comprising the largest and most diverse family in the mineral kingdom.
"From ancient times to the present day, quartz crystals have been a source of Light to mankind. Highly valued by spiritual leaders and healers, as well as scientists, the unique attributes of quartz have played a key role in mankind's evolutionary development." (Bear, R, Windows of Light preface)
Clear Quartz crystals are the supreme gift of Mother Earth. Even the smallest is imbued with the properties of a master healer teacher. Ancients believed these stones to be alive, taking a breath once every hundred years or so, and many cultures thought them to be incarnations of the Divine.
Today's healers agree, believing crystals are living beings, incredibly old and wise, and willing to communicate when an individual is open and ready to receive. Wearing, carrying or meditating with a Clear Quartz crystal opens the mind and heart to higher guidance, allowing the realm of Spirit to be transmitted and translated into the world of physical form.
Resonating at the level of an individual's needs, Clear Quartz also amplifies whatever energy or intent is programmed into it, and continues to broadcast that energy throughout the world and into the etheric realms.
This may accelerate the fulfillment of one's prayers, intensify healing or spiritual growth, or simply allow the crystal to hold a pattern of energy long enough and strongly enough for the manifestation of a goal to occur.
This moon is also known by its animal totem, the Snow Goose.
During the winter season, snow geese spend most of their time in coastal marshes. Some people tend to show similar preference to warmer climate during winter by also migrating south.
When the snow begins to melt and the signs of winter disappear, both geese and humans travel back up north. Tradition and habits plays huge roles in nature.
People born under the Earth Renewal Moon, the Snow Goose moon, take tradition seriously and tend to be very respectful of others and their traditions and ways of life.
Do you feel that you share qualities with the Snow Goose Moon?
Are you ready for change and renewal?
Are you sure you are not overprotective, but ready to allow others to spread their wings?
Do you accept others and their traditional beliefs?
If so, then you are ready to move on to the next moon. If you do not feel that you are ready to move, it is okay. Go at your own pace. Keep working with your Earth Renewal Moon quartz crystal until you can both allow others to fly free of your bonds, and you too are ready to “head north once again.”
If you need the spirit of the Snow Goose and the Earth Renewal Moon, you may also consider working with white crystals along with your clear quartz.[2] White is the color associated with the Snow Goose and is also the color of the feminine gender. It is manifested as the Goddess in many cultures and, as such, the color of the world of birth and regeneration.
It is a cool color of the night, the sleeping world, and it offers us the best guide to the hidden world beyond understanding, just as the moon is our only illumination in the dark world of night.
White is the color of the full moon reflected on a snow-covered field. It is cold, but a sleeping cold reflecting great heat. White is the color of contradictions and opposites. It is the color of freedom and the color of hope.
Combining the energy of clear quartz and white crystals will bring you the spirit energy of the Earth Renewal Moon. If you were born under this moon consider wearing and using both clear quartz and white crystals. You will find they “resonate” with your spirit.
If you are seeking to use the medicine wheel to gain the energy and benefit from the spirit of the Earth Renewal moon and the Spirit Guide, the Snow Goose, place your quartz crystal on your Medicine Wheel.
Clear your mind of everything except positive energies coming from the Earth Renewal Moon. If you feel that is not enough, call upon Kabibonokka. Take his Alabaster crystal and place it and the Earth Renewal Moon’s quartz on the Medicine Wheel at the same time.
This will help you construct a stronger bond with your spirit. Use the Medicine wheel daily with these two crystals in place. Continue to meditate with this arrangement during the period of this moon, and you will soon find freedom from the need to control others, and of controlling yourself.
Should you need even greater help, surround your clear quartz crystal with some small white tumbled or rough stones to bring the energy and spirit of the Snow Goose Spirit Guide to your wheel.
[2] The Color Wheel of Life identifies this time as the time of violet energy. There is no conflict here. The Snow Goose spirit guide’s color is white. If you wish, combine the color energies of the Snow Goose moon and the Color Wheel of Life. Place a few violet crystals and some white ones around your clear quartz during this moon. You will have an integrated spirit/natural world elements to your Wheel.
