Introduction to the Meaning and Uses of Celestite
Celestite holds special significance for all who look to the light-filled heavens and experience a wonderful sense of peace, an elevation of spirit, and an overwhelming awareness of belonging, not just to mankind but to the universe and all that dwells there. Celestite’s ethereal blue crystals reflect the many hues of our celestial dome and is perhaps the loveliest of the blue energy crystals. It is a powerful activator of the Throat Chakra, as well as the Third Eye and Crown Chakras, stimulating the spiritual senses and bringing a swift and dynamic connection to the higher realms. It is foremost a Stone of Heavenly Communication, particularly with the angelic realm, and is one of the most effective for connecting with one’s guardian angels or spirit guides. [Simmons, 101][Ahsian, 102][101 Hall, 68][Lembo, 118]
Celestite’s high-vibrational frequency radiates in all directions, emitting a soft, positive energy that may be used to cleanse the surrounding environment or heal one’s aura. It is beneficial for calming fears or stilling a chaotic mind, and provides clear focus and a smooth transition in meditation. Celestite is highly conducive for dream recall and out of body travel, and stimulates intuitive abilities, especially in clairvoyant and clairaudient endeavors. It is a beautiful crystal that promotes purity of heart, hope, and good fortune. [Simmons, 101][Ahsian, 102][Melody, 188][Hall, 96-97]
Celestite, also called Celestine, is a strontium sulfate mineral first reported in the 1790’s. Its name, derived from the Latin caelestis, means “celestial” or “heavenly,” and refers to the sky-blue color commonly exhibited by its crystals. While it is usually colorless to pale blue or blue-gray, specimens of white, yellow, light orange to reddish-brown, and pale green have been reported. Celestite has a hardness of 3 to 3.5 and forms in tabular and prismatic crystals, in compact massive or fibrous forms, and as crystal linings in geodes. Because of its softness, it is less often used as a gemstone and more often as specimens, with the most beautiful blue clusters coming from Madagascar. Celestite is a primary source of the element strontium, used in various metal alloys, for sugar-beet refining, and in the manufacture of pyrotechnics and flares for its brilliant red flame. [www.mindat.org][www.gemdat.org][Simmons, 100][en.wikipedia.org][www.britannica.com]
The world’s largest known geode is lined with blue Celestite and is nearly 35 feet long at its widest. Its crystals range from 8 to 18 inches long and up to 3 feet wide, with some estimated to weigh up to 300 pounds each. Located on South Bass Island near Put-in-Bay, Ohio, USA, the geode lies 30 to 40 feet below the surface, discovered by workers in 1897 while digging a well for the Heineman Winery above. Left in place, it was partially mined for the Celestite crystals used in fireworks until the owner decided to convert it into a viewing cave, called Crystal Cave, by removing the crystals that composed the floor. Its tourist revenues saved the winery during Prohibition, and at present both the winery and geode are open for tours. [en.wikipedia.org][www.heinemanswinery.com]
Note: Celestite is heat and light sensitive and may fade with prolonged exposure to hot lamps or full sun. [www.gemdat.org][Hall, 97]
Celestite Uses and Purposes
As a stone of heavenly communication, Celestite is ideal for quickly connecting with angelic presence and for calling in one’s guardian angels. Utilize it to seek Divine guidance, protection or healing, or to communicate with loved ones on the other side to receive their guidance. [Simmons, 101][Ahsian, 102][Melody, 188][Lembo, 118]
Place a cluster of blue Celestite in any area that has become stagnant with emotional energy or negativity to gently cleanse the environment and fill with positive energy. It is ideal for the bedroom or meditation space to calm racing thoughts and invite a sense of tranquility. Keep in the workplace to combat stress and intimidation, and place in healing rooms to attract angelic energies and purify the space. [Ahsian, 102][Eason, 245][Lembo, 119]
Blue Celestite is a perfect support stone for dispelling worries and fears, suspicions, or paranoia, helping one to feel safe and protected. It is an excellent talisman for releasing high anxiety or bringing one back to a calm, centered state during a panic attack. Carry a piece of Celestite to allay fears of travel, large crowds, speaking or eating in public, or to overcome involuntary behaviors such as fainting, excessive blushing or nervous tics. Give a small piece to children to hold so they can feel their guardian angel near whenever they are afraid or lonely. [Ahsian, 102][Eason, 46, 245][Hall En, 149][Gienger, 22]
Celestite is an excellent gem for artists, musicians, designers and all who need to stimulate creativity and expand their ideas. It is important to those in visionary businesses, such as a New Age store, metaphysical services, or any spiritual related business to be prosperous and present while still maintaining one’s ethics and connection to the spiritual world. [Melody, 189][101 Hall, 68][Lembo, 119]

Celestite Physical Healing
Celestite is particularly cleansing to the auric field and body systems by stimulating cellular order and eliminating toxins caused by stress and chronic tension. Its soothing influence transmutes pain and calms mental distress. It is believed useful in treating disorders of the eyes, ears, and throat, and to aid in digestive disorders, especially those made worse by stress. As a sulfate, Celestite may also assist in clearing infections, including those of the skin, reducing fever, and protecting against intestinal parasites. It is an excellent stimulant stone for long-term courses of treatment. [Melody, 189][Hall, 97][Ahsian, 102-103][Eason, 245][Gienger, 22][Megemont, 48]
Celestite Emotional Healing Energy
Celestite is a crystal of peace for the emotional body, cooling fiery emotions, tempering distress when things become overwhelming, and slowing the mind’s incessant chatter. It inspires one to be still, connect to a higher purpose and receive the calm, restorative energy it offers. Celestite brings balance and alignment, hope and optimism. It is wonderful for healing sadness, grief or despair, and is a great aid to improving dysfunctional relationships by opening one to peaceful negotiations and a willingness to explore new experiences.[Lembo, 119][Melody, 188-189][Hall, 97]
Celestite Chakra Healing and Balancing Energy
Celestite carries a soft blue crystal energy that stimulates the Throat Chakra, the voice of the body. It is, in essence, a pressure valve that allows energy from the other chakras to be expressed. When the Throat Chakra is in balance and open, it allows for the expression of what we think and what we feel. We can communicate our ideas, beliefs, and emotions, bringing our personal truth out into the world. We have an easy flow of energy within the body and spirit. Energy rising upward from the lower chakras can continue its path enabling free expression and natural release.
Celestite is also a powerful activator of the Brow and Crown Chakras. The Brow Chakra, called the Third Eye, is the center of our perception and command, and directs our sight and everyday awareness of the world. Our consciousness is located here, and we relate to ourselves through this chakra. When the Brow Chakra is in balance our thoughts and internal communications within ourselves are healthy and vibrant. We are open to new ideas, dreams, and visions, and can control the flow of energy within all the chakras.
The Crown Chakra, located at the top of the head, is our gateway to the expanded universe beyond our bodies, controlling how we think and how we respond to the world around us. It is the fountainhead of our beliefs and the source of our spirituality. When the Crown is in balance, our energies are in balance. We know our place in the universe and see things as they are. We are unruffled by setbacks, knowing they are an essential part of life.
Celestite Spiritual Energy
Celestite is a gentle but powerful crystal of celestial connection, expanding the consciousness to receive wisdom from the Divine Source as well as communication and protection from the angelic realm. This crystal teaches patience and perfect trust in the Divine process, instilling a profound sense of peace and the desire for a harmonious coexistence with humanity and all of creation. Celestite helps one recall and acknowledge gifts of the Divine, as well as to recognize Divine intervention in one’s life. [Melody, 188][Ahsian, 102][Hall, 96-97][101 Hall, 68]
Celestite Color Energy
Celestite utilizes blue color energy, the color of the sky as winter gives way to spring and the sun climbs higher each day. It marks the beginning of life and emotion. Blue crystals bring trust, faith, patience, and respect, lending the focus needed to become more sincere, act more responsibly, and become more trustworthy. Light blue crystals help us accept the life we have, develop patience, reconcile differences, or seek forgiveness. They’re excellent for recovery efforts from addictions or destructive patterns, aid in curbing tempers, and help us become more dependable and cheerful. Light blue crystals also assist in dealing with grief, letting go of the past, and curing guilt.
Meditation with Celestite
Celestite’s high frequency facilitates a smooth transition into meditation, keeping one clear and focused on the process while providing a calm, protected state in which to explore one’s inner being, the higher self, or to connect to the wisdom of the universal mind. It is highly effective for surrendering to total peace and provides an excellent tool for dream recall, astral travel, and heightening psychic and intuitive talents. Celestite is a gentle gem and perfect for those new to crystal power and meditation. [101 Hall, 68][Melody, 188][Ahsian, 102]
Celestite Divination
The Divinatory meaning of Celestite: Today is the tomorrow you worried about yesterday and you have survived. [Eason, 245]
Celestite and the Angelic Realm
Heavenly blue Celestite is one of the most potent crystals for accessing the angelic realm and can provide swift access to one’s guardian angels and angel guides. It is often associated with Archangels Michael, Gabriel, Haniel, and Seraphiel. [Simmons, 101][101 Hall, 68][Lembo, 118] Celestite ranges in color from clear to pale or mid-blue. Birthstones
There are several ways to find an appropriate birthstone. The traditional one is listed first. These are from the popular lists that most people are familiar with. The second way is to find your natural birthstone by the color wheel of life. You can click on the Natural Birthstone graphic below to learn more. Finally many people use the traditional stones of the Zodiac.
In this section you will find information on all three approaches.
Celestite Traditional Birthstone
Celestite is not a traditional birthstone.

Celestite Natural Birthstone
Celestite which is blue in color is one of the natural birthstones of those born as the world awaits the vernal equinox and spring (February 19 - March 19). This is a time when new life is about to burst forth, a time of faith and trust. Blue crystals bring patience and respect.
Celestite - Zodiac Stone of Aquarius
Celestite is thought to stimulate spiritual maturity, as well as to bring balance and tranquility to those born under the signs of Gemini and Cancer. [Megemont, 256, 258]
Celestite Amulets and Talismans
Celestite is a Dispeller Solidifier crystal. Dispeller crystal lattices act like a radiator with sharp points from which energy can flow easily outward, carrying with it the undesirable elements in one’s life. They are helpful talismans to relieve the everyday concerns of physical, mental and spiritual problems. Dispellers are also known as Restorers. They put things right again after they are out of balance.
Solidifiers are a class of minerals that include the sulfates and are the most powerful talismans for solidifying a relationship or new habit. They are used to add permanence to anything that is temporary. They are particularly useful in efforts to stabilize a situation and to help one maintain something they have worked hard to achieve.
Celestite Feng Shui
Blue Celestite utilizes Water energy, the energy of stillness, quiet strength, and purification. It embodies potentialities unrealized, and is yielding and formless yet powerful. The Water element brings power of regeneration and rebirth. It is the energy of the circle of life. Use blue crystals to enhance any space that you use for repose, calm reflection, or prayer. Water energy is traditionally associated with the North area of a home or room. It is associated with the Career and Life Path area, its flowing energy assuring a balance of energy as your life unfolds and flows.
Celestite in Ancient Lore and Legend
Celestite (strontium sulphate) was first reported in the 1790’s and has no traceable legends and lore. However, modern crystal lore claims it to be a Stone of Heaven, created from angelic song from celestial choirs. [101 Hall, 68][www.controverscial.com]
Much earlier crystals called Celestine were previously known from Sicily, though these are thought to be barium-rich and not the strontium variety discovered in the late 1780’s and formally described in 1792. These prior Celetines were said in mythology to have come from a beautiful network of stars known as the Pleiades, or “Seven Sisters,” and were believed to hold celestial wisdom [www.mindat.org] [www.madagascandirect.com]
