Introduction to the Meaning and Uses of Uvarovite
Uvarovite is lush emerald green in color, the only consistently green Garnet. Named for a Russian statesman, it is sometimes confused with Emerald because of its deep green color [Simmons, 172], and is hard to distinguish from the dark green Grossular Garnet, Tsavorite, even though their chemical compositions are different. It is very rare in gem form.
Instead, Uvarovite has small uniform crystals of calcium chromium silicate and is often found in its drusy form, a natural surface coating of tiny sparkling crystals covering a rock, sometimes made into beautiful jewelry. If a crystal is faceted or tumbled, it is almost certainly Tsavorite. Because it is so rare, Uvarovite is a very special crystal to give to a loved one as it symbolizes what is precious and lasting. [Eason, 271]
Uvarovite, with its intense energy, promotes prosperity and wealth. It assists one in learning to joyfully accept what is offered by the Universe, and by clearing the channels of receiving, one is more likely to accept the prosperity that is available. [Ahsian, 172]
Uvarovite promotes individuality without egocentricity, and at the same time links the soul into its universal nature. [Hall, 139]

Uvarovite may aid cell regeneration in lung weakness and diseases, emphysema, and plant allergies such as hay fever. It fortifies the liver, pancreas, and strengthens bladder weakness. It treats sexual dysfunction and libido in both sexes. [Eason, 271][Gienger, 44]
Uvarovite aids in detoxification and has an anti-inflammatory and fever-reducing effect when necessary. [Gienger, 44][Hall, 139][Melody, 676]
Uvarovite Emotional Healing Energy
For someone who feels inadequate, Uvarovite brings a sense of self-worth. [Eason, 271] It assists in healing emotional wounds caused by feelings of scarcity of love, support, or consideration in relationships. These scarcity patterns are often the underlying cause of financial scarcity, and Uvarovite releases and overwrites them with frequencies of love, joy and abundance. [Ahsian, 172]

Uvarovite Chakra Healing and Balancing Energy
The pure green rays of Uvarovite stimulate the Heart Chakra and enhance spiritual relationships. This is a calm and peaceful stone, helpful in experiencing solitude without loneliness. [Hall, 139] It enhances physical relationships through fusion of the souls – one purpose, one mind. [Melody, 676]
The Heart Chakra, located near the center of the breastbone, regulates our interaction with the external world and controls what we embrace and what we resist. It gives us the balancing ability to be ourselves within the environment. When the Heart Chakra is out of balance we may feel either controlling or controlled in a relationship, and become critical of the little foibles of others. We may well find ourselves having inappropriately strong emotional responses to everyday external stimuli. Green crystal energy is used to resolve blockages and to re-balance the Heart Chakra, helping us understand our own needs and emotions clearly. We can deal with the ebbs and flows of emotional relationships, understand their cyclic nature, and accept the changes.
Uvarovite Spiritual Energy
This mineral helps one recognize the universal and endless nature of the soul. Once this concept is accepted, conscious action can be taken to live connected to “All That Is.” [Melody, 675] It defines our right to a place in this world and to be a contributing partner in it.
The drusy kind of Uvarovite (covered by many minute crystals), calls spiritual love into your life. [Eason, 271] It heals the feeling of lack and insufficiency in all its aspects, by opening the heart to knowing that the Universe provides precisely what is required in any given moment. By surrendering to that agenda, it leads to a sense of peace and contentment, healing the struggle to satisfy the lower desires which were the source of feelings of lack to begin with. It is the well-known paradox that one can have anything as soon as one gives up the desire for it. [Simmons, 172]

Utilizing energy from the pure green ray, Uvarovite Garnet is a “growth crystal” – a powerful conduit of the earth’s Life Force of birth, development, and creation, and of the power of nature’s constant renewal. Green Garnet is perfect for keeping a venture on course, a project on schedule, and life on track. Birthstones
There are several ways to find an appropriate birthstone. The traditional one is listed first. These are from the popular lists that most people are familiar with. The second way is to find your natural birthstone by the color wheel of life. You can click on the Natural Birthstone graphic below to learn more. Finally many people use the traditional stones of the Zodiac.
In this section you will find information on all three approaches.
Uvarovite Traditional Birthstone
Uvarovite is the traditional birthstone of those born in January.
Uvarovite Natural Birthstone.
Uvarovite Garnet, because it is green in color, is one of the natural birthstones of those fortunate enough to be born in the heart of spring (April 20–May 20). Green crystals bring you renewal, success in new ventures, and good health.
Uvarovite – Zodiac Stone of Aquarius
Garnet is the zodiac stone for those born under the sign Aquarius, the mid-winter season between January 20 and February 18. Aquarians desire the truth of all things and have a gift for art and music. Wikipedia tells us Aquarius is considered a “masculine”, positive (extrovert) sign. It is also considered an air sign and is one of four fixed signs. Aquarius has been traditionally ruled by the planet Saturn, and, since its discovery, Uranus has been considered a modern ruler of this sign. Being the eleventh sign of the zodiac, Aquarius is associated with the astrological 11th house.
Uvarovite Amulets and Talismans
Uvarovite is a Safety talisman, useful in focusing our efforts to make sure we stay safe while traveling.
As a member of the Garnet family, Uvarovite is an Enhancer Strengthener crystal. Enhancers have internal crystal lattices of perfect cubic symmetry and internal harmony. As “building block” talismans, their internal structure of perfect crystal lattices help us focus our efforts to build on our successes and enhance our lives.
Strengtheners are crystals that are chemically formed in the island silicate class. This class of minerals forms very compact materials that are strong, resistant, and unyielding. Strengthener crystals provide you with the energy to resist temptations and resist distractions from your goals. Garnets are the best known Strengtheners and the perfect talismans to keep us on course.
Uvarovite Feng Shui
Uvarovite Garnet has Wood energy, the energy of growth, expansion, new beginnings, nourishment and health. It enhances vitality, brings abundance, and keeps us growing physically. Use green crystals to enhance any space used for eating, in the room of a small child, or in a place of your home where you are beginning a new project. Wood energy is traditionally associated with the East and Southeast areas of a home or room. It is associated with the Family and Health area, and the Prosperity and Abundance area.
Garnets in Ancient Lore and Legend
Garnets were employed as inlaid stones in Celtic and Anglo-Saxon jewelry. [Fernie, 19] Garnets the color of fire were also called Carbuncles (from fire-coals), and the Hebrew name for the carbuncle was Bareketh (flashing stone) or Barak (lightning). It was a stone in the breastplate of the High Priest. Eastern legends assert that a carbuncle was suspended by Noah, in the Ark, to diffuse light. The Greeks called the carbuncle the Lamp Stone and it was said, if hung around the neck, to give the power of seeing in the dark. [Fernie, 158-159] [Mella, 86]
Greek mythology speaks of Garnet as a stone that can, through divine influence, heal emotional rifts between lovers. [Simmons, XXI]
A Warrior’s Stone, Garnet served as a talisman in the Crusades for both the Christians and their Muslim enemies. The Merovingians brought garnets from faraway Ceylon (Sri Lanka) through the Silk Road, combining it with amber from the Baltic to create magnificent jewels. Since these two stones balanced each other, one warm, one cold, some see the source of the Frankish civilization in this combination, the amber tempering the warrior-like fieriness of the Germanic people. [Megemont, 87]
Low libido and sexual disorders were credited to be relieved by the application of Garnet directly to the genital organs. Princess Palatine discovered her husband, the brother of King Louis XIV, applying garnets on his body in this way. Though he asked her not to reveal this to anyone, she instead told the whole court and wrote about it in her many famous letters. [Megemont, 87]
Garnet is a conqueror’s stone. Legend has it that a garnet ornamented Don Juan’s ring. [Megemont, 88]
The well-formed image of a lion, if engraved on a garnet, will cure the wearer of all diseases, protect and preserve his honor and health, and guard him from all perils in traveling. [Kunz, 133]
