Introduction to Meaning and Uses of Spodumene
Spodumene is a lithium aluminum silicate mineral usually found in pegmatite veins. In its natural opaque form, Spodumene is worked as a lithium ore and processed into different grades for use in ceramics, glass, batteries, steel, fluxing agents and medicine. However, it is more highly prized and better known in the pale, transparent form as a gem mineral used in jewelry and healing, the most popular varieties being pink to violet Kunzite and green Hiddenite. (See their pages for more info.) This page will provide the properties of Triphane, the clear to yellow forms of Spodumene.
The name Spodumene comes from the Greek, spodoumenos, meaning “burnt to ash” or “reduced to ash,” referring to the ashy color of early specimens or the grayish-white mass formed when the mineral is ignited. Spodumene is strongly pleochroic, shifting in colors depending on the angle of observation, and has a perfect cleavage and splintery fracture, making it difficult to facet. It forms in pink, violet, green, yellow, white, gray, colorless and brownish crystals. All forms fade in direct sunlight.
The varieties of Spodumene include:
Kunzite – most popular variety, ranging in color from pale transparent pink to light violet. It is beautiful as a gemstone with a brilliant shift in color, and is a Stone of Emotion, pure in energy and joyful in nature. It opens and connects the heart to the mind and stimulates a healing communion between the two. Kunzite encourages one to release walls built around the heart for protection, and to be receptive to the experience of unconditional and abundant love. (For more information, see the Kunzite page)
Hiddenite or Green Kunzite – varies in color from pale green, to yellow-green, to deep emerald green. Also known as Lithia Emerald, it is rarer than Kunzite and is sometimes faceted into gemstones. Hiddenite is a Crystal of Evolution, helping individuals to grow spiritually, and to be aware of their collective responsibility for the care of the Earth. It supports new beginnings and focusing on the present, relinquishing injustices of the past or anxieties for the future. (For more information, see the Hiddenite page)
Crystals labeled Spodumene, or Triphane, are typically colorless or light yellow, and are sometimes referred to as Clear or Yellow Kunzite. They are seldom used in faceted form, most are considered non-gem grade; however some clearer specimens do justify their use as gems and healing stones, and some healers and crystal practitioners regard the clear, white or gray crystals as having an even higher spiritual vibration than Kunzite. Triphane crystals are for cleansing and restoring. They remove negative energy and pollutants from the aura and emotional body, clear environments, and restore freshness, optimism and a sense of purpose.
Rarities in Spodumene include a faint blue to bluish-green variety, as well as bicolored or tricolored specimens.

Triphane Spodumene Uses and Purposes – Overview
Triphane Spodumene is good for seeing a task through to completion when enthusiasm wanes, particularly for those who continually take on new projects then lose interest when the task becomes difficult or boredom sets in. [Eason, 374]
Use Triphane as a cleansing crystal for the home to refresh its energies, whether to reduce clutter, spring cleaning, or to remove memories of someone who has moved out. In the office, clear or white Spodumene promotes honesty and integrity, and clears away secrecy and uncertainty. It also brings a new positive energy after someone has left under unpleasant circumstances. [Eason, 374]
Triphane provides a shield against harmful or unwanted energies. Carry or wear to create emotional space if the constant presence of others becomes wearisome. Gray Spodumene protects against intentional domination or control, whether by manipulation or bullying, and yellow Spodumene clears environmental smog and deflects radiation and microwaves from the auric field. [Eason, 374][Hall, 164][Melody, 363]

Triphane Spodumene Physical Healing Energy
Triphane assists in RNA/DNA structuring and re-building, provides blueprint information in cellular development, and aids in stabilizing the calcium-magnesium balance in the body. [Melody, 363][Hall, 164]
Triphane is thought to assist in treatments for epilepsy, sensory problems, particularly hearing and blurred vision, and with conditions associated with the nervous system. It also benefits the joints, bones and spinal cord. [Eason, 374]
Triphane has a fortifying action if worn or carried during the weeks before fertility investigations or treatments, especially if low sperm count is an issue. It also assists in treating thrush, Chlamydia, herpes and any sexually-related conditions. [Eason, 374]
Triphane Spodumene Emotional Healing Energy
Clear Spodumene is an excellent crystal for restoring energy, optimism and a sense of purpose. Passed in spirals over the body and the aura, it removes lingering sad memories, anxieties over past mistakes or failures, and helps dissolve negativity from others. [Eason, 374]
Triphane is an effective talisman in overcoming the power of addictions, particularly gambling, running up debt for social reasons rather than need, and alcohol abuse. [Eason, 374]
Triphane Spodumene Chakra Healing and Balancing Energy
Pale yellow Spodumene is special for its property of aligning all seven major Chakras within a twenty-four hour period. [Melody, 363][Hall, 164]
Its pale yellow energy rays stimulate the Solar Plexus Chakra, the energy distribution center and the chakra of relationships. This chakra is located between the ribcage and navel, and controls the immune and digestive systems. When in balance physically, you have strength to fight infections, are free of allergic reactions, and are able to use the nutrients you ingest. Spiritually, when the solar plexus is in balance you are free to interpret the world through your own thoughts and emotions and not live in fear of violating the dictums of others.
Clear and white Spodumene crystals, with their higher vibrational energies, activate the Crown, Higher Crown and Soul Star Chakras, located at the top of the head and above, and are the fountainhead of our beliefs and the source of our spirituality. They represent personal identification with the Infinite, and oneness with God, peace and wisdom. Attuned to higher, more spiritually enlightened things, they embody true humility and provide an ultimate soul connection. [Raphell, 164][Hall II, 366]
Triphane Spodumene Spiritual Energy
Gray Spodumene, particularly as crystals, may be carried or worn to benefit any form of spirituality where the hidden aspects become better understood the more deeply they are studied. It is especially helpful in studying the Kabbalah or Qabala, and for learning trance mediumship. [Eason, 374]
Clear Spodumene assists in soul retrieval, facilitating the journey back to the site of the soul loss and may be used as the receptacle for the soul until it is reintegrated into the body. [Hall, 164]
Triphane Spodumene Color Energy
Light Yellow Spodumene brings the power to solidify new interests and new relationships, helping you to see things in a different light. It adds clarity, waking things up and adding zest, optimism, and meaning to your life and relationships. Light Yellow crystals ensure that new relationships get off to a good start by aiding in the establishment of good communication. They help you focus on the needs of the person or group you are getting to know.
Clear Spodumene is not influenced by color energy.
White Spodumene crystals are the color of cleanliness, purity, unity and innocence. The timeless, natural powers of the white rays are those of the moon and the natural cycles of birth and regeneration – the feminine gender, manifested as the Goddess in many cultures. White talismans are of the spiritual world that is sensed but not seen and offer the color of freedom and hope.
Gray Spodumene crystals embody the silver ray of reflection and the path to inner consciousness. Much like pure white, lighter gray is the color of the moon, the feminine, the cool stillness of night, magic and ambiguity. Gray objects find patterns and the inner meanings of events. Use light gray talismans for quiet meditation, finding your real purpose in life, and for calm reflection on life’s meanings.
Meditation with Triphane Spodumene
Triphane is conducive to a deep and centered meditative state, stimulating intuition and creativity while dispelling troubled or un-focused energy. It is particularly helpful to those who find it hard to enter into meditation. Holding the crystal in a vertical position aligns the chakras, balancing the energy centers and connecting them sequentially. [Melody, 362][Hall, 162]
Triphane Spodumene Divination
The Divinatory meaning of Triphane: There is something eluding you but you may have to wait a few weeks until the missing link appears spontaneously. [Eason, 374]

Tripane Spodumene Amulets and Talismans
Triphane is a Guardian Harmonizer crystal. In the physical world they are fantastic amulets for travel, protecting your loved ones, your possessions, and your physical security. In the spiritual world, Guardian crystals have special uses. They serve to guard your beliefs against doubt, and can help you keep true to your ideals and cherished beliefs, reinforcing your strength of character. The Guardian crystals can also protect your spirits during trying and difficult times. They can be very effecting in aiding your efforts to maintain your disposition, sense of humor, and respect for others.
Harmonizers, called the chain and band silicates, bind together in a long chain, distributing energy in a balanced, long-term way. They encourage efforts aimed at smoothing a path through difficulties, promoting harmonious relationships within a larger group, like family, and a peaceful acceptance of life’s inherent situations.
Triphane Spodumene Feng Shui
Pale yellow Spodumene has subdued Fire energy, generally used in the center of a home or room to bring cheerfulness, light, and energy to the entire space. Yellow is the color of the middle of the year, the middle of space, the sun, and light energy. Use this crystal in the center of a space to energize and vitalize it.
Gray or white Spodumene crystals utilize Metal energy, the energy of intelligence, contraction, healing, and creativity. It is the energy of togetherness and crystallization – of ideas, concepts, and groups. It is hard, sharp, and often destructive, yet an essential element in all lives to find our way without being a victim of others. Use gray or white crystals to enhance any space that you use for concentration, gathering strength, or working with a group. Metal energy is traditionally associated with the northwest and west areas of a home or room. It is associated with the Helpful People and Blessings, and Travel area of your life and dwelling, and with the Creativity and Children area. Its energy of crystallization will solidify your efforts and determination.
