Introduction to the Meaning and Uses of Tiffany Stone
Gazing into a fine cross-section of Tiffany Stone is a spiritual journey unto itself, soothing the mind and stimulating it at the same time. The eye travels the beautiful patterns taking in the whole, trying to decide which of its lavender and violet swirls, black and silver veins, or gold intrusions to examine more closely. All too quickly images form…a heavenly universe, an underground cave, a creek bed meandering the mountains…. Ultimately the decision is to simply explore them all.
This lovely stone engenders a light-hearted freedom, whether it is in meditation, connecting to spiritual realms, finding creative inspiration, or just learning to “be” in the moment. It is ideal for releasing stress and pent up emotions, clearing blockages of the meridians and chakras, and allowing positive energy to flow. This high-vibrational, energizing stone carries a soft frequency that nurtures the mind, stimulating and opening the Crown and Higher Crown Chakras, and increasing one’s intuition and metaphysical abilities.[Hall II, 337-338][Gienger, 39][thebesttiffanystone.com]
Tiffany Stone is composed primarily of Opalized Fluorite which produces its signature blend of rich purples, blue-violets, lavenders, and creams. It is usually brecciated with interwoven veins or patches of Quartz, Chalcedony, Dolomite, Rhodonite, Manganese oxides (blacks), Bertrandite (white, pink or yellow, containing Beryllium), Beryl, and/or solid white or translucent-yellowish Opal. It has a hardness on the Mohs scale ranging from 4 to 7 depending on the concentration of minerals, and forms in nodules that vary in size from very small to over 100 pounds. The wonder of Tiffany Stone is in its beauty, and each unique formation is secret until the rock has been opened. [mindat.org][www.spiritrockshop.com][thebesttiffanystone.com][www.shopic.com]
Tiffany Stone is extremely rare and valuable, found in only one place on earth, the Brush Wellman Beryllium Mine in the Topaz-Spor Mountains of Juab County in western Utah, USA. It was unearthed in the 1960’s with the discovery of Bertrandite, the principal mineral mined for its Beryllium content, though it contains less than 1%. Beryllium is a silver-gray metallic element, non-magnetic, stronger than steel and lighter than aluminum, used in the aerospace, telecommunications, information technology, defense, medical, and nuclear industries. Brush Wellman’s mine and refining plant, now called Materion Brush, is the sole source of processed Beryllium in the U.S. and the only known fully-integrated Beryllium company in the world. The extraction process involves crushing massive amounts of material which yield only 1 to 2 percent of Beryllium ore, and is the reason Tiffany Stone is so rare, and consequently expensive, as very few survive this extraction process. At one time the remote Brush Wellman Mine was open to collectors, though it has been closed to the public for many years. The most beautiful specimens of Tiffany Stone are from what is referred to as “Old Stock” material and came from the miners bringing out pieces, or from people allowed to collect the rock off private land. There is very little “old stock” left, and as mine operations policies have tightened, there is precious little authentic Tiffany Stone being released from owners for sale today. While the new material may not be as stunning as “old stock” stones, it will not affect the metaphysical properties. Buyers should be aware of inexpensive imitations and choose reputable dealers who have no trouble disclosing the origin of the material they sell. [Hall II, 337][www.spiritrockshop.com][www.shopic.com]
The name Tiffany Stone is often erroneously attributed to Tiffany & Co. of New York because the slabs resemble Tiffany glass lampshades, though it is more often linked to a miner who picked up the nodules for his daughter, Tiffany (sometimes named as Tiffany Harris). Tiffany Stone is sometimes referred to as Opal Fluorite, Bertrandite, Beryllium Ore, and even Ice Cream Opalite for its creamy swirled appearance. (Though there is a true Opalite composed of Dolomite, Quartz and Fluorite, not Tiffany Stone, the term Opalite is almost always used for synthetic opalized glass used in jewelry, and to promote impure Common Opal.) Note: As Beryllium is toxic, Tiffany Stone should be worn or used only in polished form, and gem essences should be prepared by the indirect method. [Hall II, 338]

Tiffany Stone is superb for clearing blockages in all the meridians and chakras, and is especially stimulating for the Crown and Higher Crown Chakras.
The Crown Chakra is located at the top of the head, and is our gateway to the expanded universe beyond our bodies. It controls how we think, and how we respond to the world around us. It is the fountainhead of our beliefs and the source of our spirituality. It connects us to the higher planes of existence and is the source of universal energy and truth. When the Crown is in balance, our energies are in balance. We know our place in the universe and see things as they are. We are unruffled by setbacks, knowing they are an essential part of life. Imbalances of the Crown Chakra are treated with Violet or Lavender crystals. Their rays embody the universal life force of magic, dreams, inspiration, and destiny.
The Higher Crown Chakras are located above the head and are aligned with high vibrational White and Lavender/White crystals. They are attuned to higher, more spiritually enlightened things, and embody true humility. They provide a soul connection and the highest self-illumination, as well as providing a cosmic doorway to other worlds. They represent personal identification with the Infinite, and oneness with God, peace and wisdom.
